BLACK FOOT, ID—SEPTEMBER 6, 2021—Lil Longmire raced to her second consecutive win on Sunday while setting the fastest qualifying time for the $35,500-added John Deere Idaho Juvenile Challenge.
The 10 fastest qualifiers, from four trials contested Sunday at Eastern Idaho Fairground, will compete in the September 25th final to be held at Pocatello Downs in Pocatello, Idaho.
Under jockey Jesus Valenzuela, Lil Longmire went gate-to-wire, defeating The Secret Prize by half-a-length, while completing the 350 yards in :17.541 seconds, equaling a 107 speed index with a 3 mph tailwind.
Trainer Monty Arrossa conditions the daughter of leading first-crop sire A Revenant for owners Laire Hannum and Ben Peterson. Spencer Peterson bred the bay filly in Utah from the Carters Cartel mare Dee Zired. A winner of two of three starts this season, Lil Longmire broke her maiden on August 29th at Sweetwater Downs.
The Secret Prize held for the second fastest clocking of :17.626 seconds, a 105 speed index. Trainer Mark Hanson saddled the Texas-bred daughter of Heza Our Secret for owners RTM Stables, Robin Dunn, Kevin Dunn and Bryon Goody.
Bred by Weetona Stanley, from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare First Prize Shaunda, The Secret Prize has compiled a (5) 1-4-0 record and has banked $4,171. Arrossa also qualified 9th fastest Kr Hercules, a Hes Relentless colt.
Hanson also saddled Eagle Assault, a son of leading sire One Famous Eagle, to a half-length win in the first trial to record the third fastest time of :17.827 seconds, a 98 speed index. Owned by Hanson Racing LLC, Larry Chapple, Robin Dunn and Bryon Goody, Eagle Assault has won or placed in six of seven starts this season and earned $11,450.
Bred in Oklahoma by Weetona Stanley, from the Oak Tree Special mare First Prize Joy, Eagle Assault was third in the Crush The Curve Futurity and fourth in the John Deere Emerald Downs Juvenile Challenge this year.
Hanson also qualified 6th fastest Empowered To Prosper and 8th fastest Bac N Action.
