Fly Donna Fly Breaks Maiden to Win $50,210 John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge

ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 15, 2021—In the second regional Challenge qualifier on Sunday afternoon, Fly Donna Fly earned her way into the Challenge Championships with a win in the $50,210 John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge.

Fly Donna Fly ($19.60), with Jonathan Dominquez aboard, broke alertly and led gate-to-wire to win by a nose. The winning duo covered the 350 yards in :17.783 and earned a 91 speed index.

Fly Donna Fly is trained by Jose Aguilera for owner Green D Ranch LLC. She was bred in California by Steve Burns, DVM, by first-crop sire Fly Thru The Fire and out of Lidonna Madonna, by Stel Corona.

Two trials on July 26 determined the field for Sunday’s final. Fly Donna Fly was third in her trial and was the fifth fastest qualifier.

The filly earned $23,097 for her winning effort for a career total of $28,321. She broke her maiden in the stakes win, though she had never finished worse than fourth in her four previous starts, including a second-place effort in her debut, a trial for the Oklahoma Futurity.

A pair of John Hammes trainees completed the trifecta. Eighth fastest qualifier Iza Good Guy ran second with Armando Alvidrez aboard for owners Bradbury Racing and John Hammes.

Iza Good Guy was bred by Hammes and Tom Bradbury in Colorado, by Jess Good Candy and out of Iza Doll Face, by Mr Jess Perry. He has earned $21,278 in four career starts.

Nothin Like You and Ramino Garcia won the tight photo for third place for the same connections. Thomas Bradbury and Lisa Beauprez bred the gelding in Colorado, by Favorite Cartel and out of Whos Kissin Carter, by Carters Cartel.

Nothin Like You was second in his trial as the second fastest qualifier. He broke his maiden at Remington Park and has finished in the money in three of his four career starts with $17,046.

Completing the field were Deutsch, Last Tres Seis, Ts Jess Watch Me Fly, Candy at Midnight, Curls Ivory Princess, Tri and Bhr Light My Spark.
