ALBUQUERQUE, NM—AUGUST 10, 2021—Grade 1 winners Perrys Double Down and CERs Final Try are among the nine aged sprinters entered in Saturday’s 440-yard, $75,000 Bank of America Albuquerque Championship Challenge at Albuquerque Downs.
The winner of this race will earn a berth in the October 23, $250,000 Bank of America Challenge Championship (G1) at Albuquerque Downs.
Perrys Double Down is trained by John Stinebaugh for owner Stinebaugh Equine Enterprises LLC. A 4-year-old son of Mr Jess Perry, the gelding will be stretching out in distance off of his one-length victory in the 400-yard, $40,000 Mr Jet Moore Stakes (G2) at Ruidoso Downs on July 25.
Perrys Double Down has won four of 14 starts and has earned $281,840, and he ended his 3-year-old season with a half-length win in the 440-yard, $393,000 Texas Classic Derby (G1) at Lone Star Park. The gelding drew post 8 and will be ridden by Francisco Calderon.
CERs Final Try is a homebred 4-year-old One Dashing Eagle gelding trained by Tony Sedillo for owner Christina D. Robinson. CERs Final Try has won three of eight races at the 440-yard distance, including last year’s Grade 1, $710,414 Rainbow Derby at Ruidoso Downs.
CERs Final Try is coming off of a half-length victory as the 6-5 favorite in the 350-yard, $25,000 John Andreini Memorial Stakes at Ruidoso Downs. The gelding drew post 5 and will be ridden by Alfredo Sigala.
