MENIFEE, CA—MAY 23, 2021—Champion of Champions winner and first-crop sire Mr Pyc To You got his first stakes winner on Sunday when Dashin Approach won the $113,060 New Mexico Breeders Futurity at SunRay Park.
Dashin Approach and jockey Jaime Leos won by three-quarters of a length as the post-time favorite. He covered the 350-yard distance in :17.562 seconds and earned a 97 speed index. The gelding’s trial time of 17.485 was the fastest from four trials held two weeks ago to determine Sunday’s field.
Dashin Approach is trained by Arturo Chavez. His owners, George and Peggy Cobb, also bred Dashin Approach from the Panther Mountain mare Panther Not a Kitty. Dashin Approach has two wins in four career starts with $60,746 in earnings.
From limited starters in his first-crop to race in 2021, Mr Pyc To You has sired 1 winner, 1 stakes winner with average earnings of over $12,400.
Trainer Jose Flores co-owned the stallion out of Stylish Sign by Vital Sign with Ronald and Denise Van Amburgh.
He is a half-brother to Grade 1 winner First Painted Sign and stakes winner Second Painted Sign. This is the immediate family of champion The Fiscal Cliff, stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Wagon Tales and Grade 1 winner First Valiant Sign, RG3 winner A Tres Of Paint, Grade 3 winner Apollitical Sign, Grade 3 winner The Polar Vortex, etc.
Flores reported the horse is currently at Burns Ranch in Menifee, California.
