HOBBS, NM—DECEMBER 5, 2021—Chicky Chicky Kai rallied to a neck win over Mi Moonflash in the $100,000 NM Quarter Horse Fillies and Mares Championship Sunday afternoon at Zia Park.
Ridden by jockey Sergio Becerra, Jr., Chicky Chicky Kai completed the 400 yards in :19.797 seconds, equaling a 91 speed index into an 11 mph headwind. It was the fifth career win in 12 starts for the daughter of multiple stakes sire Jess A Chicks.
Runner-up Mi Moonflash races for owner-breeders Pierre and Leslie Amestoy and Roger Beasley. Alfredo Sigala rode the First Moonflash 4-year-old out of Mi Camilia (TB) by Southern Halo (TB). The multiple graded-placed filly picked $19,200 to push her earnings to $138,411.
Hollyn Bootie was a length back to earn $9,600 for third. Trey Wood conditions the Big Daddy Cartel filly, out of Datona Doll and Jesse James Jr, for owner-breeders Annette and Mark McCloy. Tanner Thedford was aboard the RG1 stakes winner of $252,641.
Fireball Flash, Jess To Reel, A Flashin Blu, Diamond And A Half, Dark Moon, Famous Julia and Cartel Cambria completed the field.
