You Buy I Fly V Flies Home in $50,000 Devil His Due Stakes at Lone Star

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—NOVEMBER 27, 2021—In the second of six stakes at Lone Star on Saturday night, You Buy I Fly V earned his first career stakes win in the $50,000 Devil His Due Stakes.

Jockey Miguel Perez guided You Buy I Fly V ($9.40) to a victory by over two lengths in the 870-yard race. The final time was :45.721 with a 97 speed index.

Though he competed in many trials in his 2-year-old and 3-year-old campaigns, the Devil His Due was his first stakes appearance and marks his third consecutive win.

The 4-year-old is a gelded son of One Valiant Hero, out of the Strawfly Special mare Regal Fly, bred in Oklahoma by his owner, Tony Sedillo. In 20 starts, You Buy I Fly V has six wins, all at 870 yards, and has earned $105,833.

Favorite Kool Cartel cleared the rest of the field to finish second with Ricardo Garza-Cruz up for trainer Rolando Almanza.

The Favorite Cartel gelding is eight for 16 lifetime and has finished in the money in all his ten starts at 870 yards, including a four-race win streak from 2020 to 2021 at Lone Star, Louisiana Downs and Sam Houston. He has earned $124,852 and is multiple stakes placed; he was second in the San Marcos Stakes and third in the Governors’ Cup Marathon this summer, both at Sam Houston.

Stuart and Strebig bred the 5-year-old in Oklahoma out of Rustys Kool Lady, by First N Kool.

The Kings Horse and Jerry Lee Yoakum closed late and nosed out Holy Strom in a photo finish for third place. The 5-year-old Class King gelding is trained by Tooter Jordan for owner and breeder Bullard Farms, who bred The Kings Horse in Texas out of the Thoroughbred mare Fleeta Dif.

The Kings Horse is three for 21 lifetime with $67,906 in earnings. He is multiple stakes placed, most recently in the Benny Pennington Stakes at Sam Houston in July.

Completing the field were Holy Storm, Ghost Bear, One Mighty Eagle, Viva Le Don and X Rated Winner.
