GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—NOVEMBER 27, 2021—Cheyennenews picked up his third win this season under jockey Francisco Calderon while setting the fastest time for the Grade 1 Texas Hero Paint & Appaloosa Futurity Saturday night at Lone Star Park.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return Saturday, December 18th to vie for the winner's share of a $79,070 purse going 400 yards.
Saddled by trainer Randall Read, Cheyennenews completed the 400 yards in :19.854 seconds to win the second of three trials by half-a-length. Racing on a sloppy racetrack with a 5 mph headwind, the son of world champion Painted Turnpike equaled a 91 speed index to establish to the top mark. Bred in Texas by Four Cross Horse Co., Cheyennenews is owned by Michael Read.
He has won three seven starts this season, finishing third in the Colors of the Alamo Paint and Appaloosa Futurity at Sam Houston and fourth in the PSBA American Paint Classic Futurity at Remington Park. The bay gelding is out of Deflash by Decash.
