LOS ALAMITOS, CA—NOVEMBER 20, 2021—M.C. Stucks’ Astranomical was moved up from second to first in the Grade 2, $50,000 Las Damas Handicap following the disqualification of multiple stakes winner Kiss Thru Fire from first place after drifting in late to bother her outside rivals on Saturday at Los Alamitos.
Kiss Thru Fire was placed seventh as a result of the disqualification.
With her odds of 24-1, Astranomical returned her backers a pretty penny for the win while scoring her second stakes win. The Dominyun filly won the Prairie Meadows Distaff Challenge earlier this year. She also finished third in the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby last year.
On the other hand, Astranomical ran solidly in her first start for Aleman, finishing ahead of major stakes winners like Champion of Champions-bound mare Cat Daddys Lil Girl and Lynnder 16. Bred by Bobby Cox, Astranomical earned $27,500 for winning the Las Damas. She’s now won five of 11 career starts and her earnings rose to $108,438.
Paul Jones and Thompson Racing, Inc’s Suite Expectations earned $11,250 for being moved up from third across the wire to second in the official order of finish. Jesus Rios Ayala piloted the Apollitical Jess filly for trainer Paul Jones.
Jaime Negrete and Jimmy Vazquez’s Big Daddy Cartel mare Cat Daddys Lil Girl, winner of the Grade 1 Junos Request, earned $6,250 for running third. Wes Giles conditions the 5-year-old earner of more than $482,000. Noe Garcia had the riding call.
Lynnder 16 was fourth with Famous Shining Star, Elphaba, Kiss Thru Fire, Fayvorite Chick, Max My Bullets and Terra Fire completing the field..
