HOBBS, NM—NOVEMBER 1, 2021—Fireball Flash, a 5-year-old daughter of champion sire First Moonflash, got up at the wire over Mit Moonflash to get her first career stakes win in the $30,000 New Mexico Classic Distaff for state-bred fillies and mares Monday afternoon at Zia Park. Jess To Real finished third in a blanket-finish of the top six finishers.
A stiff drive under jockey Christian Ramos propelled Fireball Flash to a neck win. The New Mexico-bred mare was clocking in :17.70 seconds for the 350 yards, equaling a 93 speed index into a 5 mph crosswind.
Conditioned by trainer Alfredo Gomez, the gray mare races for owner Dan Delaney and Ramon (Dosi) Alvarez. Also bred by Delaney, from the Runawaywiththegold mare Runaway Dashing, Fireball Flash picked up $18,000 to boost her earnings total to $127,659.
Pierre and Leslie Amestoy and Roger Beasley's Mi Moonflash picked up $6,000 for second. Todd Fincher conditions the First Moonflash 4-year-old filly from the thoroughbred mare Mi Camila by Southern Halo. The New Mexico homebred is a graded-stakes-placed earner of $119,211. Alfredo Sigala was riding.
Jess To Reel, a 5-year-old daughter of multiple stakes sire Jesse James Jr, finished a neck back to earn $3,000 for third. Trainer Arturo Chavez named jockey Angel Marquez to ride the gray mare for owner Benjamin Calderon. Ruben Quiroga bred Jess To Reel from the Real Runway mare Hot For Reel. She has earned $90,177.
Direct Deposit Fs, Kellys First Moon, U Got The Look, Dolly Cartel, Famous Julia and Surfz Up completed the field.
