HOBBS, NM—NOVEMBER 1, 2021—Dashin Approach wore down the leader to get his second career stakes win on Monday in the $30,000 New Mexico Classic QH Juvenile at Zia Park.
Under jockey Jaime Leos, Dashin Approach got up by a nose over Chicksbabycartel while completing the 350 yards in :17.663 seconds, a 94 speed index. It was the fourth win from eight starts this season for the son of first-crop sire Mr Pyc To You. Racing for owner-breeder George and Peggy Cobb, Dashin Approach is conditioned by trainer Jorge Morales-Flores.
Out of the Panther Mountain mare Panther Not A Kitty, Dashin Approach won the New Mexico Breeders Futurity(RG3) last May. He was also a finalist in the New Mexico State Fair Futurity(RG2) at The Downs in Albuquerque. The brown gelding picked up $18,000 today to push his bankroll to $100,294.
Chicksbabycartel, a daughter of leading New Mexico sire Big Daddy Cartel, earned $6,000 for her second-place effort. Also trained by Morales-Flores, the sorrel filly was ridden by jockey Mauro Salcedo. Jacob Simmons III bred Chicksbabycartel from the Jess A Chicks mare Hot Indy Chick. She has earned $26,449 from five starts this year.
Fred Danley trained Cowboy Zulu finished three-quarters back to earn $3,000 for third. Danley co-owns the Zulu Dragon gelding with Chuck Sonnenberg. Mario Delgado had the riding call aboard the 2-year-old out of First Cowgirl Flash by First Moonflash. Second in the Zia QH Futurity(RG1) at Ruidoso this summer Cowboy Zulu has earned $86,385 in eight starts.
Daddys Mony, El Quemadito, Papi Grande Cartel, Holland Rock, Ed N Otis, Jaunt and Rocasolida Esperance completed the field.
