GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—NOVEMBER 25, 2021—Rockin J Running Horses’ Viva Le Don is the 6-5 morning-line favorite for Saturday’s 870-yard, $50,000 Devil His Due Stakes at Lone Star Park.
A homebred 5-year-old Rock Solid Jess gelding trained by Tammy Johnson, Viva Le Don won three stakes during his summer campaign, all at the 870-yard distance, including the June 12, $81,000 Jesse Yoakum Memorial Stakes (R) for Texas-breds at Sam Houston Race Park. All told, the gelding has won 11 of 31 races -- including five of eight at the 870 trip -- and he has earned $497,886.
Viva Le Don drew post 8 and will be ridden by Josh Romero.
Other contenders include You Buy I Fly V, a 4-year-old One Valiant Hero gelding owned and trained by Tony Sedillo. Claimed by Sedillo for $7,500 at Albuquerque Downs on September 3, You Buy I Fly V has since won both of his outs at the 870-yard distance, and he is coming off of a wire-to-wire, three-length victory in a $40,000 allowance race at Zia Park on October 18.
You Buy I Fly V drew post 2 and will be ridden by Miguel Perez.
The Devil His Due Stakes honors the Quarter Horse Devil His Due, a gelded son of Zevi (TB) who won the 1998 AQHA Distance Challenge Championship (G1) at Lone Star Park. The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds:
