Strong Opener For Ruidoso New Mexico Bred QH Yearling Sale

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 20, 201—Buyers welcomed the New Mexico Bred QH Yearling Sale back to its home with open arms and open wallets Friday night (Aug 20) in the All American Ruidoso Horse Sale Company sales pavilion at Ruidoso Downs.

Last year's sale was relegated to the Lazy E Ranch in Oklahoma after Covid-19 closings in the state forced the sale company to hold both their annual QH Yearlings Sales out of state for the first time in history.

The sale returns to two sessions again this year with the first Quarter Horse session following the 2021 New Mexico Bred Thoroughbred Yearling Session.

The 41 NM-Bred Quarter Horse Yearlings offered in the first session tonight grossed $516,700. The $16,147 average is an 11% increase compared with last year's sale average of $14,448. The median was up a whopping 29% to $12,000 compared to last year's $8,500 median. If the sale numbers hold through Saturday's second session it will be deemed a great success.

Robert D. Sanchez paid $40,000 for the opening QH session high-seller, Hip 124 Have A Queen. Leading New Mexico breeder MJ Farms consigned the filly by first sale-crop sire Eye Am King from the RG2 winning Stel Corona mare Wish You Had One To. The January 14th filly is a half-sister to two black type including Jess Tequila Talkin and Burn One Down For Me.

MJ Farms also consigned the second high-seller on Friday, Hip 95 One Sweet Love by Jesses James Jr. Dixie Patterson and Melanie Lepar paid $37,000 for the February 1st filly from the first crop out of Grade 3-placed Sugars First Love by Tempting Dash. The second dam is the stakes winning and stakes-producing Prime Talent mare Loves Brown Sugar.

Juan Gonzales paid $33,000 for the third high-seller on Friday, Hip 111 Kia Cartel, a daughter of leading New Mexico sire Big Daddy Cartel. Hunter Creek Farms, Agent for Dirk Jones consigned the half-sister to three black type winners including RCJ Major Storm, Kia Won and Inchos Tes.

The aforementioned Robert Sanchez tied as the leading buyer in session one with the one purchase for $40,000. Jay Glover and Gary Stallings paid $40,000 for two yearlings and Dixie Patterson and Melanie Lepar had the one for $37,000.

Double LL Farm was the leading consignor in the opening session with 13 head grossing $142,200. MJ Farms had 5 head gross $132,000 and MJ Farms, Agent for Benny Smith had two head for $58,000.

Big Daddy Cartel was the leading sire of yearlings (by average with two or more sold) in the first session with four head averaging $28,000. Eye Am King had six head average $22,833 and Woodbridge had two yearling average $19,550.
