Perrys Double Down Delivers In $75,000 Bank of America Albuquerque Championship Challenge

ALBUQUERQUE, NM—AUGUST 14, 2021—Perrys Double Down is quickly become one of the top older horses in country after scoring his second stakes victory this year in Saturday's $73,585, Bank of America Albuquerque Championship Challenge at The Downs in Albuquerque.

Under jockey Francisco Calderon the 4-year-old son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry shifted into high-gear in the in the final 50 yards to defeat Tlc Signature by one-length. He completed the 440 yard course in :20.933 seconds, equaling a 107 speed index into a 12 mph headwind.

Red-hot trainer John Stinebaugh saddled the Texas-bred gelding for Stinebaugh Equine Enterprises LLC. Bred by Bob and Jerry Gaston, from the Fishers Dash mare Double Down Darling, Perrys Double Down picked up $34,585 to boost his bankroll is now over $316,000.

He has won four of his last six starts including the Grade 1 Texas Classic Derby at Lone Star Park and the Grade 2 Mr Jet Moore Handicap at Ruidoso Downs on July 25th

Double Down Perry's next stop could be the $100,000 All American Gold Cup(G1) on September 6that Ruidoso Downs. After that he would probably pickup his berth in the October 23rd $250,000 Bank of America Challenge Championship to be contested during the Bank of America Challenge Championships at The Downs in Albuquerque for the third consecutive year.

Tlc Signature (18-1) took a big step-up in class Saturday night to finish second for owner Emilio Perez and trainer Omar Vargas. The son of champion sire The Louisiana Cartel entered his first stakes event off back-to-back second-place efforts in Allowance company at Remington Park last Spring.

Paul Nieto was aboard the lightly race Texas-bred 4-year-old who was making only his eighth career start. The two-time winner picked up $14,717 to boost his earnings to $55,037. Also bred by Bob and Jerry Gaston, Tlc Signature is out of the Heza Fast Dash mare Sheza Rusty Lady.

Arizona-bred Kj Frankie B finished half-a-length back to earn $7,359 for third. The 4-year-old Apollitical Jess gelding is an Arizona homebred racing for owners John and Kathy Lee and Ruben Mares. Second in West Texas Derby(G3) and a finalist in the Texas Classic Futurity(G1) and Texas Classic Derby(G1), Kj Frankie B has earned $108,172. Jockey Adrian Ramos had the riding call for trainer Wesley Giles.

Jess My Kiss, Shickinglyfamous, Senor Frogs, Cers Final Try, Don Quixote and Mr Amstel completed the field.
