Here Comes Candy Sets Top Mark in John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge Trials

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 14, 2021—Here Comes Candy got her second win of the year on Saturday when she defeated Famous Coronas by half-a-length in the first of four trials contested for the John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge at Ruidoso Downs .

Under jockey Francisco Calderon Here Come Candy poste the top qualifying time of :17.351 seconds, a 101 speed index on a sloppy (sealed) racecourse with an 11 mph tailwind.

Bouncing off a troubled effort in a non-winners of two allowance at Ruidoso on July 24th the lightly raced daughter of leading second-crop sire Jess Good Candy broke her maiden at Remington Park in her first start May 7th.

The powerful barn of leading trainer John Stinebaugh the Oklahoma-bred filly races for owner Rachuan Suarez. PV Quarter Horse Farms LLC bred Here Come Candy from the Red Storm Cat mare Candy Cartels Cat. She has earned $13,060 in four starts.

Eddie D .Willis sent out runner-up Famous Coronas for owner Zynda Racing to get the second fastest time of :17.403, a 99 speed index .Jimmy Brooks rode the $25,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate by leading sire One Famous Eagle. Johnny Trotter bred the $19,079 earner from the Corona Cartel mare Sippin Secret Coronas.

Ill Be Gone, a son of first-crop sire Big Lew, got his second career win in the third trial under jockey Noe Garcia, Jr. to post the third-fastest time of :17.431 secons, a 98 speed index with a 9 mph tailwind.

An Oklahoma-homebred racing for Reliance Ranches, Ill Be gone is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Fast Red Rose. Trained by Mike Robbins the gelding broke his maiden in his career debut March 13th and was fifth in the Grade 3 Laico Bird Stakes in April. He has earned $19,332.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Ruidoso Downs on Saturday, August 28th to vie for the winner's share of a $30,000-added purse as well try to garner a spot in the $125,000 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship(G3) to be contested October 23rd on Bank of America Challenge Championship Night at The Downs in Albuquerque.
