Juan H. Moya and S-Quarter K LLC, Dasha Dynasty and Dasha Good Reason will form a formidable pair when the half-brothers headline the $54,978 John Deere Juvenile California Regional Challenge on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Bred by S-Quarter K LLC, Dasha Dynasty and Dasha Good Reason will enter the John Deere Juvenile California after winning both trials to the 350-yard final. Sired by FDD Dynasty, Dasha Dynasty enters as the fastest qualifier after overcoming troubled at the start before gliding to a 1-¼ length victory. Ridden in the trials by Ramon Sanchez for trainer Jose Flores, the Washington-bred colt dazzled in the final 100-yards of that race and should be a force once again.

“(Ramon) stayed extremely patient and got him rolling,” said Don Meneely of S-Quarter K. “Once (Dasha Dynasty) started rolling, he really got into that nice stride that his mom has produced on her horses. He finished strong and we’re pleased with that. There’s always little things that you’d like to see horses improve but the bottom line is he won the race and he’s shown that he’s got some talent.”

Both Dasha Dynasty and Dasha Good Reason are out of the great broodmare Dasha Freda, a tremendous producer of champions including 2015 AQHA World Champion Heza Dasha Fire and AQHA champion 2-year-old gelding Ima Fearless Hero.

Sired by AQHA champion Good Reason SA , Dasha Good Reason will enter the John Deere Juvenile California with an unbeaten record after his first three starts. A winner in his Ed Burke Million Futurity trial on May 30, he returned to win his trial for this race by a head after a slow break.

“I just think that the longer it gets for Dasha Good Reason, the better he’ll get,” said Flores of his trainee.

Irving Lara will ride Dasha Good Reason from post number four, while Dasha Dynasty will start from post number one.

Flores will also send out Good Trouble, a Colorado-bred colt he owns in partnership with breeder George Seward. Also sired by Good Reason SA, Good Trouble ran a solid race when finishing second to Dasha Good Reason in their trial. Cruz Mendez will pilot the runner, who has hit the board in each of his last three starts.

David Hinkins’ Unavailable was the runner-up to Dasha Dynasty and she figures to be in the mix as well. Trained by Adan Farias, the Oklahoma-bred filly has won twice from four starts and was a winner in her Ed Burke Million trial despite facing trouble early on. Eddie Garcia, the all-time leading rider at Los Alamitos, will pilot the Oklahoma-bred filly by leading second-crop sire Jess Good Candy.

Reliance Ranches LLC’s Brokenhearttattoo, who won his trial to the Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity, Kidd Ranch’s KR Hercules, PF Racing Stables LLC’s Freighttrain Cartel, and Carlos Lopez’s Lethal Blood will each be looking for their second career win and first stakes victor in this race.

Edward and Von Ze McNelis’ Scoops Dynasty will look to be the surprise package in this race after showing a good late kick in her trial effort against Dasha Dynasty, while Five Livestock LLC and Steve Wright’s The Blue Mallard finished a strong second to Unavailable in their Ed Burke trial and posted a sharp gate work prior to his John Deere California Juvenile trial.

Red Hot Payeras

Jockey Edgar Payeras, the leading Thoroughbred rider at Los Alamitos in 2019, has been scalding hot at Los Alamitos since his return after being away from the saddle in the spring while visiting his parents out of state.

Payeras has been the overall leading rider at Los Alamitos since June 1, winning with 26 of 79 mounts for a terrific winning ratio of 32.9%. The hot streak has taken Payeras to third in the overall standings for the meet with 47 wins from 166 mounts. Francisco Orduna Rojas is currently at the top of the standings with 61 wins, while Henry Reynoso Lopez is second with 51.

In the Quarter Horse standings, Ruben Lozano is holding the top spot with 39 wins, three more than Oscar Peinado and Ramon Sanchez.
