CLAREMORE, OK—NOVEMBER 13, 2021—Second fastest qualifier My Midnight Candy returned Saturday to defeat Senator Volcum by a neck in a blanket finish to the $85,016 Oklahoma Horsemen's Association Mystery Derby at Will Rogers Downs. Fastest qualifier Mh Apollitical Spy was a nose back in third.

Jockey Daniel Torres guided My Midnight Candy over the 350 yards in :17.538 seconds, equaling a 98 speed index into a 6 mph headwind. It was the sixth career win, fifth this year, for the son of leading second-crop sire Jess Good Candy. The $34,506 winner's purse boosted the Oklahoma-bred gelding's earnings total to $76,833.

Trainer Jason Olmstead conditions the homebred for owner-breeder Brenda Reiswig. My Midnight Candy is out of the Ivory James mare Midnight Sunlight. He broke his maiden at Canterbury Park last summer and has rattled off four consecutive wins that began at Prairie Meadows last August.

Even though My Midnight Candy entered the final with the second fastest qualifying time in the October 30th trials, the bettors let him go off at odds of 9-1. He returned $19.60 to win, $12.20 to place and $5 to show.

Runner-up Senator Volcom picked up $16,003 for owner-breeder Wootan Racing. Trainer Toby Keeton named champion jockey James Flores to ride the son of All American Futurity(G1) sire Volcom from the Louisiana Senator mare Eysa Lil Senator. Senator Volcom has banked $48,870 in 10 career starts.

Andrea Meza and Lorenzo Gomez' Mh Apollitical Spy earned $10,502 for third. Mary Meza conditions the Apolltical Blood gelding out of Corona Spy by Corona Cartel. Third in the Speedhorse QH Futurity(G3) last year, Mh Apollitical Spy has earned $63,562.

Kool And Fabulous, One Kool Dreamer, Cindydoesitagin, Sttreakinlilwagon, Bp Primetime, Apollitical Bird and Shadi Lady completed the field.
