Trap Play Breaks Maiden In Grade 1 Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Futurity

CLAREMORE, OK—NOVEMBER 13, 2021—Trap Play, a 2-year-old daughter of #4 leading second-crop Quarter Horse sire Docs Best Card, got her first career win on Saturday when she defeated My Name Is at 14-1 odds in the $44,055 Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Futurity (G1) at Will Rogers Downs. Post time favorite Rp Reckless Wire was a nose back in the blanket-finish to take third.

Jockey Jesus Salazar hustled Trap Play to the lead from gate-to-wire in :20.118 seconds, an 89 speed index with a 5 mph tailwind, to defeat My Name Is by a neck. The $17,401 winner's purse more than doubled the brown filly's earnings to $25,071.

Leading trainer Dee Kenner saddled Trap Play for owners Loyd Yother and J. Garvan Kelly. Kelly/Yearsley Equine LLC bred the filly in Oklahoma from the Fade To Fame mare Fade Shot. Her half-sister Mammy Jammer finished third in the $15,900 Don Drake Memorial Stakes in the previous races at Will Rogers on Saturday.

My Name Is, a daughter of leading APHA sire Crm Livewire picked up $7489 for second. Ray Enlow trains the sorrel filly for owner Roy Perkins. Also bred by Enlow, My Name Is Alice is out of the Little Jungle Jet mare Dashin DD. She has banked $24,677 this year from 10 starts. Justin Klaiber was riding.

Perkins and Enlow were also the owner and trainer-breeder of third-place finisher Rp Reckless Wire. Cody Wainscott had the riding call aboard the multiple stakes-placed earner of $99,681. The Oklahoma-bred filly by leading sire Crm Livewire is out of Rp Miss Reckless Dash (QH) by Reckless Dash (QH).

Wl Showtime, Pfr Apollitical Kate, El Docs Best Chic and Outlawstateofmind completed the field. Livewires Wagon, Show Me Ur Colors and Wf January Dawn were scratched.
