Lethal Storm Breaks Maiden, Sets Top Mark In Turf Paradise Maiden Trials

PHOENIX, AZ—NOVEMBER 9, 2021—Lethal Storm got his first career win today when he defeated Rwd Penelopes Cartel by 1-¼ lengths in the second of two trials contested for the Turf Paradise Maiden Stake at Turf Paradise Racetrack.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Phoenix racetrack on Wednesday, December 1st to vie for the winner's share of a $30,000 purse going 350 yards. Each of the trial races today were valued at $10,000, a considerable increase due to a recent AZHR Federal Grant.

Under jockey Luis Valenzuela, Lethal Storm broke well and kept clear throughout to post the top qualifying time of :17.818 seconds, a 95 speed index. Trainer Eloy Navarro conditions the son of All American Futurity(G1) sire Volcom for owner Jose Mendoza.

A $23,000 Los Alamitos Equine Sale graduate in 2019, Lethal Storm has placed twice in 11 starts and earned $9,202. P.K. Thomas bred the bay gelding in Texas form the Chicks Beduino mare Miss Lethal.

The lightly raced Iron Budderfly stumbled at the start in the opening trial but gamely vied to win by three-quarters while establishing the second fastest time of :17.864, a 94 speed index. It was the first win in four starts for the son of First Down Dash gelding also owned by Mendoza and trained by Navarro.

Valenzuela was also up on the $27,000 Los Alamitos Equine Sale graduate. Bred in California by Double Bar S Ranch, LLC, from the Strawflyin Buds mare Budderfly Effect, Iron Budderfly made three starts over the past two years at Ruidoso in prior to his trial win at Turf Paradise today. He has earned $6,293.
