Jet Black Grace Perfect at 5-for-5, Sets Top Mark on Night 2 of $1.1 Million Texas Classic Trials

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—NOVEMBER 7, 2021—Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winner Jet Black Grace remained a perfect 5-for-5 after posting an impressive 2-¾ length winning effort in the fourth of the last nine trials contested for the Grade 1 $1,114,815 Texas Classic Futurity Sunday night at Lone Star Park.

The five fastest qualifiers from Night 1 (Nov. 6) will join the five fastest qualifiers from tonight (Nov. 7) to face off in the 400 yard Texas Classic Futurity(G1) final at Lone Star Park Saturday, November 27th. The winner will take home $496,092 with the last-place horse earning $27,870.

Under jockey Juan Pulido, Jet Black Grace completed the 400 yard course in :19.642 seconds, equaling a 97 speed index into a 9 mph headwind.

Entering off a win in the All American Futurity trials on August 21st where he failed to qualify, Jet Black Grace is trained by Santos Carrizales, Jr. and races for owner Zitro Racing Corp. The trio of Pulido, Carrizales and Zitro Racing also posted the fastest time on Night 1 of the trials with Mr Apollo Jess.

A $55,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate, the son of multiple stakes sire Jet Black Patriot broke his maiden at Remington park last April then won the $1,314,980 Heritage Place Futurity(G1) on May 29th. Bred by Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches, LP, from the Mr Jess Perry mare Thrill And Grace, Jet Black Grace has banked $582,116 this year.

Dash For Cash Juvenile runner-up Rainbow To Roses kicked off the night with a three-quarter length win in the first trial (race 2) to post the second fastest time of :19.820 seconds, a 92 speed index into a 9 mph headwind.

Trainer Toby Keeton conditions the Apollitical Blood homebred for owner-breeder Danny Joe Miller. The Oklahoma-bred filly out of Cc Seis by Tres Seis has never been off-the-board in six starts and banked $32,583. Luis Vivanco had the riding assignment.

The lightly raced Special Apollitical, under jockey Luis Vivanco, defeated Edward Ashley by a head the sixth trial (race 7) to set the third fastest clocking of :19.917 seconds, a 90 speed index with a 9 mph headwind.

The $40,000 Heritage Place Yearling repurchase races for owner-breeder Adam B. Smith. Also trained by Keeton, the Apollitical Jess colt out of Scouts Special Wagon by Pyc Paint Youer Wagon, has was won two of four starts and earned $19,564 this year.

Runner-up Edward Ashley held on to the fourth fastest time of :19.939 seconds for owner Cody Cobb. James J. Gonzales III named jockey Mario Delgado to ride the maiden son of leading second-crop sire One Fabulous Eagle from the Grade 1 producing Heza Fast Man mare Ashleys Gold Digger.

Cobb purchased the gelding for $47,0000 at the Heritage Place September Yearling Sale graduate from breeder Edward D. Leslie, MD.

Ajs Tres Of Paint, third in the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity last May, secured the final qualifying spot on Sunday night with a one-length win in the fifth trial (race 6) for owner Julio Contreras and trainer M. Heath Taylor.

Jockey Rodrigo Vallejo rode the bay son of leading sire Apollitical Jess, to a :19.946 clocking, an 89 speed index with a 9 mph headwind. It was the second win in six starts for the Mixer Ranch Oklahoma bred out of A Tres Of Paint by Tres Seis. Also a finalist in the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity(RG1), Ajs Tres Of Paint has earned $213,405 this season.

Santos Carrizales, Jr. led all trainers with three finalists over the two nights of trials. Toby Keeton saddled two qualifiers.

Apollitical Jess was the leading sire with four qualifiers.
