Dahock Scores First Career Stakes Win In Grants Pass Downs' Memorial Stakes on Sunday

GRANTS PASS, OR—NOVEMBER 7, 2021—Dahock got his first career stakes today (Nov. 7) when he defeated Miss Fancy Alleia by a head in the $20,400 Memorial Stakes at Grants Pass Downs.

Under jockey Louis Gonzalez, Dahock held off a steady bid from Miss Fancy Alleia while completing the 350 yards in :18.164 seconds over a "wet fast" racing surface into a 3 mph crosswind. It was the second win in nine starts for the son of champion sire Zoomin For Bux.

Trainer Benito Curiel conditions the 3-year-old gelding for owner-breeder Malon Cowgill. Out of the Blushing Bug mare Lanty Bug, Dahock picked up $10,000 to boost his bankroll to $26,875. Dahock was third in the Autumn Derby and 4th in the Adequan Grants Pass Derby Challenge earlier this year.

Runner-up Miss Fancy Alleia, is a 3-year-old daughter of multiple stakes sire Im A Fancy Pyc from the Count Corona mare Count Alleia. The brown filly races for owner-breeder and trainer Emilio Guerrero. The Oregon homebred earned $2,400 for the effort, bringing her earnings total to $16,145.

Bumped at the start, multiple stakes winner Louisana Bunny finished three-quarters back to earn $2,400 for third. Nick Lowe conditions the Oregon homebred for The Estate of Lee Markholt. Alex Anaya had the riding call aboard the brown filly out of My Best Bunny Yet by Best Advice. Winner of the Grants Pass Firecracker Futurity and the Emerald Downs Juvenile Challenge last season, Louisana Bunny has earned $53,543.

Super Bowl Sunny Day, No Juans Fool, Marcelino, Dash For Ginger T, One Sweet Lippy and Not Another Lover completed the field.
