Mr Apollo Jess Dominates Night 1 of $1.1 Million Texas Classic Futurity Trials

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—NOVEMBER 6, 2021—Mr Apollo Jess posted the biggest win of his career after romping to a 2-¼ length win Saturday night in the opening trial of two nights of trials for the $1,114,815 Texas Classic Futurity(G1) at Lone Star Park.

The five fastest qualifiers from Night 1 will join the five fastest qualifiers from Night 2 (Sunday) to face off in the 400 yard Texas Classic Futurity(G1) final at Lone Star Park Saturday, November 27th. The winner will take home $496,092 with the last-place horse earning $27,870.

Jockey Juan Pulido rode Mr Apollo Jess to his second consecutive win, covering the 400 yards in :19.563 seconds, a 99 speed index into a 5 mph headwind, to establish the fastest qualifying time on Night 1. The son of leading sire Apollitical Jess entered the trial off a win in the All American Futurity trials in his last start, August 20th.

Santos Carrizales, Jr. trains the $115,000 Heritage Place Sale graduate for Zitro Racing Corp. Bred in Oklahoma by Rancho El Cabresto Inc., from the First Down Dash mare A Delightful Legacy, Mr Apollo Jess has won five of seven career starts and earned $134,729. He was fifth in the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity(RG1) in April and seventh in the Ruidoso QH Futurity(G1) in June.

Making his first start since winning the $3-million All American Futurity(G1) on Labor Day, Kj Desparado dominated the fourth trial under jockey Adrian Ramos. The son of Apollitical Jess posted a 1-¼ length win to get the second fastest qualifying time of :19.661 seconds, a 96 speed index into a 5 mph headwind.

Trainer Wesley Giles conditions the $1.6 million money earner for John and Wanda Lee and Ruben Mares. Bred in Arizona by L&L Land & Cattle, Kj Desparado was also a finalist in the Ruidoso QH Futurity(G1), Rainbow QH Futurity(G1) and AQRA Turf Paradise Open Spring Futurity this year. He is out of the Tres Seis mare Tres Veses.

The lightly raced Jess The Leader got his second career win in five starts for trainer John Stinebaugh and owner-breeder Pete Scarmardo in the eighth trial (race 11). Jockey Francisco Calderon rode the son of multiple stakes sire Jess Louisiana Blue to the third fastest time of :19.666 seconds, also a 96 speed index.

The Texas homebred, out of Cartel Leader by Corona Cartel, broke his maiden in his career debut at Sam Houston Race Course and was third in the TQHA Sale Futurity(RG2) at the track last July. The $44,000 TQHA repurchase has earned $70,080.

Doiteze finished one-length off Jess The Leader to get the fifth fastest time of :19.839 seconds, a 92 speed index. Coming off a win in the Gillespie County Fair Futurity in his last start, August 29th, Doiteze races for owner Luis Plascencia and trainer Juan Diaz, Jr.

Jose Herbert rode the son of second-crop sire Docs Best Card from the Jess Louisiana Blue mare Shakem Jess. The $9,500 TQHA Sale graduate has earned $102,510 this year. Michele and Craig Snider is the breeder.

Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity(RG2) winner San Lorenzo Tay kept his record a perfect 4-for-4 after posting a 1-½ length win in the sixth trial. Jockey Juan Pulido rides the $67,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate for owner Rogelio Marquez, Jr.

Santos Carrizales trains the Oklahoma-bred son of Ivory James out of Shes Dashin First by First Down Dash. Bobby D. Cox bred the $398,482 earner. San Lorenzo Tay was making his first start since winning the Remington Park Futurity last April.
