Wrs Moonin Thewagon Scores Seventh Consecutive Win In Saturday's QHRAI Derby at Indiana Grand

SHELBYVILLE, IN—OCTOBER 30, 2021—With an alert start under jockey Juan Marquez, Wrs Moonin Thewagon held off Rock The Candy Wagon by a neck Saturday in the $122,240 QHRAI Derby. On A New Note was a nose back in a blanket-finish to run third.

Wrs Moonin Thewagon completed the 400 yards in :19.815 seconds, a 97 speed index on a sloppy (sealed) racetrack with a 9 mph tailwind. It was the seventh consecutive win for the multiple stakes winning son of the late second-crop sire Moonin The Eagle.

Trainer Randy Smith conditions the Kentucky-Bred 3-year-old for owner-breeders Williams Racing Stables LLC. Out of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Wrs Quick Wagon, the gray gelding picked up $67,232 to boost his earning to $240,860.

Undefeated in four starts this season, Wrs Moonin Thewagon won the Indiana Grand QHRAI Derby in June. Last year he won the Governor's Stakes and was second in the Heartland Futurity.

Pyc Paint Your Wagon for owner-breeders Lance and Tammy Finlinson. German Rodriguez had the riding assignment aboard the bay gelding out of Jesses Candy by Mr Jess Perry. Rock The Candy Wagon has earned $52,759.

Third-place finisher One A New Note earned $12,224 to bring her earnings mark to $70,526. Orlando Mojica had the riding call for trainer Randy Smith and owner Brian Gunder. Thomas Bradbury bred the daughter of second-crop sire One Fabulous Eagle from the Corona Cartel mare Corona Cerveza.

Jess Cindy, Western Reserve, Cartel Creek, Wrs Famous Molly, Apollitical Tools, Jess Over Yonder and Flyn completed the field.

The 19th season of Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing is now in progress and continues through Thursday, Nov. 11.
